Good news if you feel like you’re not talented! Firstly, it’s not true. Second - grit matters more than talent. Today we’re reading Grit by Angela Duckworth.

What is "grit?" It's a combination of passion and perseverance for long-term goals.
It's about staying committed to objectives despite challenges and setbacks.
Grit is more important than talent.
For me, this is really good news 😂
Grit keeps us moving forward even when things get tough.
According to Angela Duckworth, grit is what distinguishes successful people from those who give up too easily.
It’s about having the tenacity to keep pushing, learning, and growing over time.
Unlike talent, which is often seen as a fixed trait, grit can be developed and nurtured.
Grit turned out to be an astoundingly reliable predictor of who made it through and who did not. - (Pg. 11)
Effort counts twice as much as talent when it comes to achieving success.
Effort is required to develop skills. It's also required to turn those skills into achievements.
Angela emphasizes that without effort, talent is nothing more than unmet potential.
Effort is essential because it drives continuous improvement.
Even those with natural talent need to put in significant effort to refine their abilities and excel.
If you're not where you want to be today, just remember that effort is key 🔑
Effort counts twice as much as talent. - (Pg. 40)
Consistently showing up and doing the work is crucial for success.
This principle is evident in the training programs at West Point.
Cadets endure physically and mentally demanding routines every day.
Despite the challenges, those who consistently show up and put in the effort are the ones who succeed.
This commitment to showing up and doing the work is a defining characteristic of grit.
It’s about being present and fully engaged in the tasks at hand, regardless of the difficulties.
So when in doubt, all we need to do is just show up and do our best.
Eighty percent of success in life is showing up. - (Pg. 48)
Angella tells us that passion is a key driver of success.
It fuels perseverance and keeps us motivated over the long term.
Duckworth emphasizes that passion, combined with perseverance, is what constitutes grit.
Passion gives us a sense of purpose and direction, making it easier to stay committed to our goals.
When we're passionate about what we do, we'll be more likely to invest time and effort into it.
(Which leads to continuous improvement and success)
Passion fuels perseverance, leading to long-term achievements. - (Pg. 19)
I feel like we don't even need to talk about this one because it's been such a recurring theme in all these books that we've been reading.
The One Thing, Essentialism, Poor Charlie's Almanack, Atomic Habits, Shoe Dog...
But I want to talk about it real quick to drive the point home.
We need to be consistent in our efforts.
If we're constantly jumping from one thing to another, the compound effect can never take place.
Small steps taken every day add up over time. - (Pg. 49)
I read one book every day. I carefully analyze it to extract the most helpful information. Then I pass it along to you :)
